Happy November, folks! We hope you all have a wonderful month ahead. This note from one of our loyal customers made our day! Thank you so much, Jeff!

Hello Ike!

I was out taking an evening stroll around the place, Canoe Axe in hand, appreciating the feel of the thing, remembering all the hard work it has helped me accomplish and thought I would send you a note saying such!

My two favorite material objects of this world are my Victorinox “Farmer” pocket knife and my Wolf Valley Forge Canoe Axe made just for me by Ike Bullington!

Give my best to your family!
Jeff W.

Have a wonderful day out there, folks!

Howdy folks!

We hope you’re having a really good week. We wanted to pop in and remind you that there’s still time to take photos for our 2021 Wolf Valley Forge Photo Contest!

Here are the details…

This contest is not about photography skills, but it is about sending in your tasteful photos for an entry into our drawing for a Wolf Valley Forge Axe, shipped free to your US address! We’re so excited about seeing your axes and adventure photos coming in, and look forward to sharing them with everyone.

We have several categories for your photos, and we will be the judge of how many entries you receive in the random drawing, based on the type of picture(s) you submit. So, here are your options…

  • A photo of your Wolf Valley Forge axe. (1 entry)
  • A photo of your hunting trophy. (1 entry)
  • A photo of your Wolf Valley Forge axe with its work (examples – a tree it felled, cutting kindling, a camp setting it assisted with, etc.) (2 entries)

Cell phone photos are welcome! Please do try to make them clear, not blurry, but no professional photography skills required. We just want your photos! 🙂

(The fine print…1. Please only send one photo per time/setting/event. You can send multiple pictures, but they need to be from different times. 2. Please specify if you don’t want your picture posted on the Wolf Valley Forge site. We may not post every picture, but we have discloser to, unless otherwise noted. 🙂 3. Preferably trophy photos are fairly recent, within the last couple years or so. 4. International entries are welcome, but shipping charges will apply. Thank you!)

Horace Kephart was a famed outdoor writer, who moved to the great Smoky mountains in the early 1900s. He made his home for several years in a little mountain cabin up the Little Fork of the Sugar Fork of Hazel Creek, immersing himself in the culture of the mountain folks there and gaining great understanding of true wilderness treks, and survival and mountain living. He became famous for his writings about the mountain people in Southern Highlanders, as well as his treasured outdoors book Camping and Woodcraft.

“To many a city man, there comes a time, now and then, when the great town wearies him.” Kephart loved the mountains, and through influential articles and his books, he raised awareness of the mountain place and ways that were special to him.

Kephart’s cabin site is reached by a long hike into the remote depths of the mountains. It was here that he could “get away from it all” and learn the ways and trades of a true outdoorsman. The nearby lively Hazel Creek flows through the mountains and later empties into Fontana Lake.

About one year ago, Ike and Karmen had the pleasure of taking a trip up to the mountains of North Carolina and overlooking the valley where Fontana Lake lies nearby.

And on this trip, it only seems fitting that Ike’s Wolf Valley Forge Kephart Reproduction Hatchet and Lucas Forge Vintage Kephart Knife would make the trek to those mountains and overlook the land that Horace Kephart roamed and loved. These two tools pay tribute to the woodcrafting knife and his “Little Trick” hatchet that he used and wrote about.

Truly the mountains and hills and great expanse of God’s creation holds so much beauty and wonder for us to enjoy and discover. As Mr. Kephart said, “There is something hidden: go and find it.”

Howdy folks!

Hope you’re having a great week. We always love getting pictures from our customers, and this one from Jeff is no exception. He’s been putting his Wolf Valley Forge Canoe Axe to good use out there. What a cool photo!
